Born in Weymers Haus, Wunderthausen. He arrived in New York on October 21, 1867 on the ship Union out of Bremen. He reportedly worked for seven years in a Pennsylvania coal mine but this is questionable as he appears to have been living in Wheatland, Iowa by 1870. Known as Henry.

Married in Iowa in 1874; Charlotte was from Washington, Missouri. Lived in Cherokee County, Iowa, until about 1902 when they moved to Cathy, North Dakota. In 1915 they went to Salem, Oregon. Living at 740 North Cottage Street in West Salem, Polk County, in 1926 when their daughter, Amanda, died.

Schumacher Johann Jost [Male] b. MAR 1716 Elsoff - d. ABT 1787 Berks County, Pennsylvania

Christened March 22, 1716 so was probably born shortly before. May have been the Jost Schumacher who arrived in Philadelphia on October 27, 1738 on the ship St. Andrew from Rotterdam via England (John Stedman, captain). Others with Wittgensteiner names were also aboard. He was almost certainly born in Gückers house in Elsoff. American records give his mother's name as Maria but his baptismal record says otherwise.

Born in Lipses Haus in Wunderthausen. The 1900 Census gives 1857 as his immigration date, but I have not found a ship's record. The same census also gives his birth year as 1836 (which you will see in other Ancestry records and is even on his tombstone), but this is INCORRECT. The church records from Wunderthausen (of which I have three independent transcriptions) are clear that he was born in 1835 and was originally christened Johannes (not Johann Georg). Lived in Missouri and Wisconsin before moving out west.

This profile picture is often associated with a real Johann Georg Homrighausen, born in 1828. I am inclined to believe that it does belong to Johannes, but could be wrong.
