Lena Smith and her daughter Margaret Smith were both victims of what came to be known as the "Ruskin Heights" tornado. According to the National Weather Service, this tornado remains the most deadly of the 300+ tornadoes recorded in this area since 1950. On May 20, 1957, the 71 mile long track of the Ruskin Heights tornado passed directly over the Martin City area, Ms. Smith's home at the time. Margaret died that same evening. Lena Smith died three months later as a result of complications from injuries sustained in that tornado

Came by steamship to America in 1865 from Hohmanns house in Wunderthausen. Letters home describe his employment in steel mills and the high wage he received (in comparison to home). His wife is described as Ludwig Riedesel's daughter, Elisabeth, and I am making a logical leap in assuming that this was the Georg Ludwig Riedesel from Wetzels. His dream of buying his own home came to a sudden end when he was killed in an industrial accident.
