Born in Seimes/Weisßkopf Haus in Wunderthausen but went to America in 1837, reportedly after being discharged from military service in 1834. He and Catherine were married in Germany in 1837, but not in the Girkhausen parish of which their native Wunderthausen was a part. They went to America and settled at Oxford, New Jersey (now Hazen) in 1837; the name of their ship or exact travel dates are not known. Much of the information about the family is taken from a family Bible that was transcribed by a descendant.

At least by the children's generation, they had settled on the name of "Riddle" though there are references to other variations. Known as George--sometimes Ritesel, sometimes Radle, sometimes Riddle. A transcription of the New Jersey death record lists him as "J. George Riddle." That source gives his year of death as 1893. His grave marker says 1884. Other family trees say 1894 which I am accepting for now but any of the dates is possible.

Rietesel Steven Scott [Male] b. 24 MAY 1949 Woodstock, McHenry, Illinois - d. 11 NOV 2011 Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Steven was a 1967 graduate of McHenry High School, completed his undergraduate work at Western Illinois University in 1971 and received his master's degree in 1977 from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. His 33-year career as a physics and astronomy educator in Lake Zurich, College of Lake County, Libertyville and in Vernon Hills was one of his many passions. He has touched the lives of thousands of students and teachers. Steve grew up on the Fox River and learned the boat cover business from his father, Carl, of Rietesel's Boat Covers in McHenry, and later started his own business, SR Canvas. Not only did he share his father's passion for hunting at the "farm" in Woodstock, he also discovered the joy of growing apple trees and created Meadowmoor Orchard, leaving 2,300 apple trees as a legacy for his family and friends.
He is survived by his three daughters, Amy (Bill) Rolain of Barrington, Kristel (Rory) Prendergast of Newbury Park, Calif., and Elizabeth (Jerad Karlen) Rietesel of Johnsburg; his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Elsa, Benjamin, Gwendolyn, and a fifth on the way; and his brother, Byron Rietesel of McHenry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee, on June 12, 2009; his parents; his sister, Diane Rietesel-Walsh; and his brother, Alan Rietesel.

Burow Carl L. [Male] b. MAR 1840 Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - d. 25 APR 1902 Ida County, Iowa

He came to the U.S. with his family in 1893 aboard the SS Steinhöft out of Hamburg. The ship arrived in Baltimore on September 12, 1893. The family's previous residence is given in the German record as Dubberzin, Pommern (Pomerania). This eastern province is now part of Poland, and the town is called Dobrzecino.

He was known, at least sometimes, as Charles in America. In 1900 they were living in the Maple township of Ida County, Missouri. Someone named Carl Burow died in Ida County, Iowa on April 25,1902.
