Born in Känels house in Wunderthausen. Came to New York on the ship "Union" from Bremen on October 21, 1867. On the same ship was a 19-year-old Maria Lauber and several others with Wittgenstein names. Johannes Riedesel and (Maria) Katharine Lauber were married in St. Louis in 1869. They apparently lived there until sometime around 1880 when they moved to Milwaukee. At the time of his suicide death in 1891, he had been working as a plasterer.

The record of their children is far from clear. I don't find any documentation on Kitti or Louisa, even though I once had rough birth dates. By implication they were alive in 1900 according to the 1900 Census. I cannot locate an 1880 Census record. A birth and death of a daughter Lena Emma (1878-1880) is recorded, yet another Lena Riedesel from this family went on to marry and have children, and she was almost the same age.

Known as Louis Jr. Lived at Big Rock, Iowa, but moved on to St. Joseph, Missouri. Gave his age as 53 in the 1930 Census which is off by several years. He worked then as a greenskeeper for a private family. They were living in the St. Joseph township of Buchanan County.

Friday, 27 Sep 1957 St. Joseph Gazette:

Louis Riedesel, 1413 South 13th Street, died at a hospital here last night. He was 83. The body is at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:30. Dr. B. V. Powell will officiate and interment will be in Ashland Cemetery. Mr. Riedesel, a retired farmer, was born in Lowden, Iowa, and had lived in St. Joseph 40 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors are four sons, Raymond and Lawrence Riedesel, Denver, Colo., and Frank and George Riedesel, St. Joseph; three daughters, Mrs. Katherine Timm, Kansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Mabel Novak, Denver, and Mrs. Alice Dynes, St. Joseph; a sister, Mrs. Louise McLaughlin, Chicago; a brother, Ernest Riedesel, Benton, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Born in Schäfers house, Wunderthausen. Arrived in New York on the ship S. S. Donau out of Bremen on November 25, 1871. She had been widowed for more than ten years. Several other passengers were from Wunderthausen including her daughter Florentine. I do not know where she lived but it was almost certainly with one or more of her children.
