Lange Alice Katherine [Female] b. 18 FEB 1924 Dixon, Scott, Iowa - d. 7 MAR 2017 Iowa City, Johnson, Iowa

Alice Katherine Lange was born February 18, 1924, in Dixon, the daughter of Emil and Alma (Koch) Lange. She grew up on a farm near Dixon. She graduated from Lowden High School in 1941. She married Theodore Schneider on September 6, 1947, in Wheatland. Together theyfarmed north of Wheatland, until they retired and moved to Wheatland in 1975. Ted died March 9, 1997. She was in charge of the financial books at St. Paul’s Cemetery for 30 years. She was a former school bus driver for Wheatland. She enjoyed volunteering, including at the Carroll Assistance Center, working at the Wheatland Wire, and was a voting poll worker. She also liked to play cards and was a great sheepshead and bridge player. She was an avid newspaper reader and gardener. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ along with the women’s guild.

Survivors include one son, Steve (Lisa) Schneider of Salt Lake City, UT; one daughter, Rita (David) Ireland of Edmonds, WA; one son-in-law, Dennis (Deb) Wulf of Camanche; five grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Rickertsen, Mark Wulf, Jesse (Amelia) Ireland, Jane (Justin) Goodwin, Sara and Gregory Schneider; six great-grandchildren, Aleisha (Matt) Haag, Austin and Alex Rickertsen, Lyla and Lou Ireland, and Calvin Goodwin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Anita Wulf, and one brother, Wallace Lange.

Mörchen Johannes [Male] b. 1705

A Johannes Mörchen from Wunderthausen is listed as emigrating to America with his wife and one child in 1738; he was born in 1705. It is my guess that he is the same one who married Anna Catherine Spies in 1735. The records show a Johannes Mörchen as the father of the girl, Anna Maria, in 1737. It is likewise an educated guess that he is the same man. One assumes he was related to the miller Johann Matthias Mörchen from Bromskirchen, perhaps even his brother. This Johannes is not listed in the birth records for Wunderthausen though he must have resided there.

The man in question sailed to America on the ship St. Andrew bound for Philadelphia out of Rotterdam.

Spies Anna Catherine [Female]

I have been unable to specifically identify her father. She went to America with her husband and daughter on the ship St. Andrew bound for Philadelphia out of Rotterdam in 1738.
