Riedesel Johann Ludwig [Male] b. 9 MAR 1775 Berleburg - d. America

I have found no documentation for him after his arrival in America.

He arrived on the brig Osgood in Philadelphia on September 20, 1819. It had sailed from Amsterdam.

The princely archives in Berleburg include this document:
Der Johann Henr. Riedesel zu Berleburg hat die Emigrations Urkunde für sich, seine Frau und Tochter und für seinen Bruder Joh. Ludwig heute in Empfang genommen. Ich benachrichtige Sie hiervon.

Berleburg d[en] 17t[en] May 1819.

Riedesel James L. [Male] b. 13 OCT 1892 Big Rock, Clinton, Iowa - d. 27 APR 1916 Trout Park Camp, Kane County, IL

Died under suspicious circumstances. He had been employed a cashier for the Cudahy Packing company in Elgin, Illinois, for two to three months at the time of his death. He was staying with friends in a cabin near the "Trout Park Camp" around Elgin. The newspaper reported that one of his roommates "was awakened by Riedesel's making a strange noise. He shook his companion but got no answer: Riedesel's breaths appeared to be coming in gasps and within a few minutes her ceased to breath . . . he appeared to be in good health but yesterday complained of being numb." The attending doctor attributed his death to "a severe attack of heart trouble", but no autopsy was performed.
