Preceded parents and other siblings to the U.S. She traveled on the ship Rhein out of Bremen and landed in Baltimore on June 24, 1903. Also on the ship was a 23-year old Georg Strackbein whom I have not been able to identify. I think he was a Wunderthausen cousin who came as an escort and to visit relatives before returning home.

Her older sister, Lisetta, had come the year before.

Born in Weymers Haus in Wunderthausen. Her husband, Georg Ludwig Kroh, had gone to Wheatland years before, been married and widowed, and returned to Wunderthausen. They had one child in Germany before returning to America and Wheatland.

They came to America on ship Bremen out of Bremen, landing in New York on September 24, 1902. She was known by her middle name, often spelled Lisetta. Her given first name is spelled variously in different sources. However, the church record from Wunderthausen says 'Emilie' which is proper German spelling as is 'Lisette.'

Born in Wagners Haus in Wunderthausen. She probably spent parts of her childhood in both Wunderthausen and Diedenshausen, wherever her (single) mother had employment. She was only nine when her mother died. In 1879, her (half?) brother Louis who had gone to America died suddenly on his farm near Wheatland. He had no heirs in America but the church elders knew of Anna. They invited her to come to America to claim that inheritance and start a new life. Apparently it took some convincing, but she finally did so in the company of several other young people with a Ludwig Lückel (almost certainly from Girkhausen) as a kind of chaperone for the group. They traveled on the ship Neckar out of Bremen, landing in New York May 29, 1880.

Anna, Herr Lückel, and at least some others traveled on to Iowa. It almost certain that they went by the Ohio River to St. Louis and then up to Davenport or Clinton. She signed a Quit Claim with Herr Lückel for $120. Surely he had paid for her passage and was repaid once they got to Wheatland. He returned to Germany. It took a while to finally settle her brother's estate but Anna now owned land that apparently remained in her name. She had only been at Wheatland for a couple of months when she married Louis D. Riedesel. Whether this was arranged in advance or just happened is anybody's guess. My guess is that the relationship developed after her arrival. The Riedesel brothers were close neighbors and good farmers.

Dickel Karl [Male] b. 15 NOV 1827 Girkhausen - d. 10 APR 1884 Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa

Born in the house called Zwistmühle, a single Hof between Neuastenberg and Girkhausen.I have been unable to find a record of his coming to America though it was probably not too long before or after his brother came. He owned farm land in section 5 of the Spring Rock township which passed to his brother Heinrich, as Karl never married. At the time of his birth, the mill belonged to the parish and community of Girkhausen. Only following a modern reorganization is the property officially tied to the village of Neuastenberg in the town of Winterberg in the Hochsauerland Kreis.

She was born in the house known in Wunderthausen as Schmeds/Franzose. She came to America in July 1857 with her younger brother, Johannes (port of Baltimore, ship Itzstein and Welcker out of Bremen).

She apparently died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. The son, John, was raised by her brother Louis Homrighausen's family as her husband died the year after she did.
